Project Result: Peer Mentoring Programme for Prison Staff

The Peer Mentoring Programme for Prison Staff, aims to build and pilot a comprehensive peer mentoring programme for prison officers who have been recently recruited.

Objectives:

  • to transform the previously defined promising practices, mentor profile regarding peer mentoring and support schemes into a workable and effective mentoring programme,
  • to foster the use of new and improved learning tools adequate to the digital and green transition
  • to produce a mentoring programme adequately evaluated and fine-tuned,
  • to contribute to the peer mentoring for prison staff literature with empirical evidence, and
  • to improve prison staff mental and physical health while diminishing job burnout and turnover.

Activities:

  • Development of the modules, the detailed activities and learning outcomes, time allocation, and facilitator´s guidelines for a training programme targeted at potential mentors
  • Development of a blended training programme. The training programme will be available in 5 languages (English, Greek, Danish, Romanian, and Portuguese).
  • Recruitment and training of 15 prison officers per country (apart from Belgium) for the mentor training programme. The programme will last for three months.
  • Mentoring activities: the trained mentors will be paired with mentees and implement a mentoring process for four months.
