Project Result: Blueprint of Prison Staff Mentoring
The Blueprint of Prison Staff Mentoring is the basis to the development of the subsequent work for the M4Pris project, informing the peer mentoring programme, and the training course for mentoring coordinators.
Objectives:
- to identify and review the most relevant literature on mentoring and peer support,
- to identify, gather, and correlate information and promising practices of mentoring and peer support in prison contexts to the development of a peer mentoring programme
- to understand and analyse current and emerging needs faced by prison officers in terms of mentoring and peer support interventions,
- to define a Mentor Profile to guide the training curricula and selection of participants,
- to create the theory cornerstone of the project .
Activities:
- Secondary research activities: Relevant and promising practices related to peer mentoring, specifically for the prison sector, will be collected, analyzed and reviewed so as to design a mentoring programme based on effective practices.
- Primary research activities: A series of interviews and focus group discussions will be carried out in partner countries, with the goal to identify the challenges prison officers and penitentiary personnel experience and to map their needs in terms of peer support and mentoring interventions.
- Development of the mentor’s profile: Based on the research, the skills, competences and knowledge of the mentor who will undertake the support of their peers will be identified. The profile will be validated in workshops through peer review.
